According to statistics from South Korea, the average amount of data used by 5G users in the first month (April) is as high as 22.4gb, and the communication industry points out that real content drives the growth of 5G data.

This is the first time 5G has been included in wireless communication statistics, Herald economics pointed out.The overall data volume of 5G in South Korea reaches 5938TB, and the average data usage of each 5G user is as high as 22.4gb, and the average LTE user in the same period USES 8.37gb, and the 5G data usage is about 2.7 times of LTE.In April, LTE data volume reached 429,597tb, a record high.


It is widely believed in the industry that real content such as AR(augmented reality) and VR(virtual reality) drives the growth of 5G data volume.Generally speaking, AR and VR content consumes about 25 ~ 30GB of data per hour.According to edaily, 5G users of LG U+ use 1.3gb of data per day, about three times as much as LTE users (400MB). Among 5G users, AR and VR content accounts for more than 20%.

On the other hand, there were 271,686 5G users in the first month.Surprisingly, KT had the most 5G users at 104,696, followed by SK telecom at 952.65 million and LG U+ at 717.25 million.

Since the commercialization of 5G in South Korea on April 3, the battle for users among Korean telecom companies has been quite fierce. According to the statistics of the telecom industry, the number of 5G users has exceeded 700,000 this month. The securities industry expects that the number of 5G users in South Korea will exceed 1 million in mid-june.
